Description
Medium Maori taiaha on stand.
Beautiful authentic Maori artefact.
This Maori taiaha comes with a greenstone tongue. This medium Maori taiaha on stand has been sold to a customer in Canada. However, a similar taiaha can be commissioned.
Our carver uses native NZ wood (rimu, matai, totara or kauri).
Taiaha
The pointed end of the taiaha is carved in the shape of a head and is called the ‘upoko’. Below the upoko is a tauri (collar) made of bird feathers.
The opposite end of the taiaha has a flat, smooth blade called a ‘rau’, with koru design.
Due to its shape, the taiaha is sometimes referred to as a spear, however, it is a fighting staff used in hand-to-hand combat.
Please note that the artwork has a greenstone tongue and will need to be sent overseas by International Courier.
