Groningen, the Netherlands
This was fun... meeting Stephen Bain, a Kiwi artist who's traveling around the world in his cute Kiwi cottage. We took a 'buzzy bee' with us, a peanut slab and a bone carving. Stephen's cute cottage was a real crowd pleaser... kids and big kids (like us)...
Baby, where are the fine things you promised me? gently invites the public to reflect on the lost utopia of the quarter-acre block. Based on one of the country's earliest models for simple houses for the working class, Baby where...? is somewhere between installation and street performance. The house changes location every day, mysteriously appearing in the city's financial district one day and on the waterfront the next. Curious visitors are amazed to discover that the house is occupied ship-in-a-bottle style by a man who plays music, cooks or shares a cup of tea with passers-by.

JANUARY 2008

Sir Edmund Hillary, one of the greatest Kiwis, has passed away this morning, Friday 11 January 2008. Sir Edmund and Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay were the first climbers to reach the summit of Mt Everest (29,035 foot) (29 May 1953).
"It is not the mountains that we conquer, but ourselves."

More from around the world.
From one of our clients:
Dear Goina: I just want to express my condolences to you, as a New Zealander, on the passing of Sir Edmund Hillary. He definitely is in the Pantheon of great people. Since I was a child, too many years ago to want to remember, he was one of my heroes. Not only for being the first person, along with Tenzing Norgay, to climb Mount Everest, but for being such a selfless, classy human being.
I always admired his humility and dedication to bettering mankind. The world needs a lot more people like Hillary. I once met Hillary when I was in New Zealand. I had the good fortune to be invited to a small dinner event in which he was one of the guests. I had such a wonderful time talking and listening to him. One of the truly special moments in my life that I will never forget. My condolences to all New Zealanders.
