About Paul, the artist:

“To me working with Ngāi Tahu Pounamu is a passion and a privilege.”

In 2002 the opportunity arose for Paul to learn the art of carving and it has developed into a huge passion and lifestyle for him. He enjoys all aspects in the carving process especially learning more about the history and tikanga within Aotearoa.

Paul believes each stone is unique and precious and feels extremely privileged to work with it. He finds it very rewarding working with individuals and groups to create one-off taonga (precious gifts) that are special to them.

Many of his carvings are based on traditional Māori designs, however he also loves the challenge of creating  contemporary art work. Also learning from the past and present designs. You can order a pepe toki pendant for baby at our site.

Paul  believes carving is a continual journey and hopes that it will be with him for many years to come. He looks forward to working in partnership with Ngai Tahu and participating with other skilled carvers who have co

mmited themselves to a system that protects the special resource in Te Wai Pounamu.
