A special artwork created for Mother's Day.These stunning outdoor metal artworks look great in any garden.Size:Approx. size metal sparrow and chicks silhouette: 140mmx350mm (5.51"x13.78")Lovely corten steel artwork ### About the sparrow and chicks Like everyone else, Mothers are an endlessly varied bunch! But if there’s one thing our mums do have in common, it’s that they’re always, always there. Dependable and wonderfully familiar, it’s that consistency that reminds us of sparrows, those lovable birds that populate our gardens so cheerfully, always there. The sparrow is also a famously excellent mother, attentive and nurturing, adapting at a moment's notice in order for her chicks to thrive. She watches her young with a careful, encouraging eye as they make shaky attempts at flight, guiding them with her voice. Our gardens and skies would be sorely lacking without sparrows, and our lives would be utterly unrecognisable without our mums. With Mothers Day around the corner, this Metalbird is a way to celebrate anyone who filled that role, shaping and encouraging you until you were ready to fly!### Limited edition These lovely artworks are a limited edition.Or check out our [metalbird tui >>](https://www.aotearoa.co.nz/products/aotearoa-metalbird-tui-silhouette/)Or check out our [bunch of metal baby birds: tui, fantail and ruru >>](https://www.aotearoa.co.nz/products/aotearoa-metalbird-baby-birds/)https://www.aotearoa.co.nz/products/aotearoa-metalbird-baby-birds/]]></product_content>

These stunning outdoor metal artworks look great in any garden.Size: Approx. size metalbird swallows silhouette:230mmx180mm (9.06"x7.09") Another lovely corten steel artwork.### About swallows What to tell about swallows. Everybody knows swallows. They have amazing flying skills. And also nest building skills. These are the 'welcome swallow',Welcome swallows are small fast-flying birds found in open country particularly around lakes, coasts, riverbeds and ponds.Their flight is circular and darting in style, and they may be seen singly, in pairs or in flocks. Flocks often perch en masse, lined up on fences or power lines. They were named ‘welcome swallows’ because they appeared in southern Australia as a herald of spring. Due to their elegant shape and flight, and their preference for nesting around buildings, swallows are noticed and appreciated more than most other small birds.### What do swallows eat Swallows forage aerially for small invertebrates. They occasionally perch on plants to take insects or sweep them up from the water. Swallows often drink while flying, scooping water from the surface of a lake or pond.Source: [NZ Birds Online >>](https://www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/welcome-swallow)Check out our [bunch of metal baby birds: tui, fantail and ruru >>](https://www.aotearoa.co.nz/products/aotearoa-metalbird-baby-birds/)]]></product_content>

The kereru is our native New Zealand pigeon. Other names for the keruru is kuku or kukupa (Northland). they are quite large and can measure up to 51cm from tail to beack. They weight about 650 gramms. Another native pigeon is the parea (Chatham Islands piegoen).### What do Kereru eat Fruits of the following trees:karaka miro tawa taraire Since the extinction of the moa, the kererū and parea are now the only bird species that are big enough to swallow large fruit, such as those of karaka, miro, tawa and taraire, and disperse the seed over long distances.Other food:buds leaves flowers other fruit While most foods are taken while clambering about on vines, shrubs and trees, at a few locations kereru spend time on the ground feeding on clover and possibly other herbs. While ripe fruit seems to be the preferred food, in most regions fruit is not available year round, and so kereru then feed on leaves. Important leaf sources include those of kowhai, tree lucerne, broom, willows, elms and poplars. The disappearance of these birds could be a disaster for the regeneration of our native forests.Source: NZ Birds Online >>Source: Department of Conservation >>Check out our [bunch of metal baby birds: tui, fantail and ruru >>](https://www.aotearoa.co.nz/products/aotearoa-metalbird-baby-birds/)]]></product_content>

These stunning outdoor metal artworks look great in any garden.Size: Approx. size metal bird fantail silhouette: size: 27.5cm x 21.5cmSize box: 310mmx210mmAnother wonderful corten steel artwork ### About Fantail - Piwakawaka Fantails are gorgeous little birds. They use their broad tails to change direction quickly while hunting for insects. It's quite a challenge to take a photo of a piwakawaka as they move very fast. But so wonderful when you do catch them with their tail fanned out.### What do Fantail - Piwakawaka eat Fantails use three methods to catch insects: Hawking: Used where vegetation is open and the birds can see for long distances. Fantails use a perch to spot swarms of insects and then fly at the prey, snapping several insects at a time. Flushing: Used in denser vegetation is called flushing. The fantail flies around to disturb insects, flushing them out before eating them. Feeding associations: the fantail follows another animal and also people, to capture insects disturbed by their movements. Fantails frequently follow silvereyes, whiteheads, parakeets and saddlebacks. And also leadership and hierarchy. The huia's tail feathers are white-tipped. And these feathers were worn as head adornments to signify chiefs and also people of great mana. Mana means authority and power.### About huia birds The huia was the largest of the New Zealand wattle bird species. And this NZ wattle bird is a song bird distinguished by orange wattles hanging from the base of the bill. Beautiful large song bird. The birds were mainly black with long white-tipped tail feathers.Female and male huia had dramatically different bill sizes and shapes. This metalbird huia silhouette would be a female bird.### Habitat The Huia mainly inhabited the mountainous regions throughout the North Island from Northland to Wellington. And do check out our cool [bunch of baby metal birds >>](https://www.aotearoa.co.nz/products/aotearoa-metalbird-baby-birds/)]]></product_content>

<product_content><![CDATA[## Metalbird Black Robin As comebacks go, the story of the Chatham Island Black Robin has to go down in history as the comeback of all time. In 1979 we were down to five specimens, only one of which was an egg laying female 'Old Blue'.All credit to the Wildlife Service for intervening & establishing a breeding program. Today there are over 250 descendants all directly related to Old Blue and long may they continue on the rise.Black robins live in woody vegetation, beneath the canopy of trees. They spend a lot of time in the lower branches of the forest in order to shelter from the strong winds that buffet the Chatham Islands group or they're afraid of heights, which of us can truly say?!Ours is larger than life size but still petite and made from our signature hardy 3mm Corten steel.Approx. size Metalbird black robin: 140mmx130mm (5.51"x5.12"), plus pin.]]></product_content>
