The America's Cup replica is seven-eights the size of the original and weighs 32 kg. It is made from 80 separate pieces of greenstone and stands on a base of swamp kauri. Te Ha O Aotearoa was commissioned by Upper Hutt company Creativision and was to be auctioned over the internet during the America's Cup final.

The replica was made by the Mountain Jade Company of Hokitika. Carvers: Bevan Climo and Ross Crump (800 hours). Polishing by Brant Davis (160 hours).
