Gill
Saker is an Auckland based New Zealand artist.
She has been a painter for 20 years but only recently
decided to make painting her main career.
Prior to graduating from AUT School of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Graphic Design in 1993, Gill participated in group exhibitons and was a freelance illustrator. She has spent the last 10 years working in advertising and design both in NZ and Australia. She lived and worked in Sydney for 8 years showing in group exhibitions every year or so before leaving her full-time advertising career to return to NZ in 2003 and focus on painting. Gill's recent works have been inspired by the fresh spirituality and mute power of New Zealand flora, land and sea scapes. These often feature as backdrops in works that use mostly soft organic forms to explore issues of identity and environmental concerns. Her first and second solo exhibitions were near sell outs. |
