THEME: ‘Hononga’ Connections
Hanging 3D kōwhaiwhai koru patterns

Name: Rua

Hanging 3D kōwhaiwhai koru patterns
Meaning: the koru are symbolic of (Life unfolding) a sign of ‘new growth’ of ‘new potential’, and, like the phoenix that rises from the ashes, a sign of the continuity of life in this contingent world thus the term (Life unfolding). One koru reaches up and the other down, connecting the earthly and heavenly plains; both a reminder and an expression of life’s balance, and dual nature which is both worldly and spiritual.

Source: ‘Koru’ Māori tradition. An iconic Māori pattern (koru) it is as widespread in usage as the iconic ‘Kiwi’, it is not specific to any particular Iwi.
