The pearl shell hooks were used throughout the Pacific for bait fishing. The shell is strong and durable and is also beautiful. The Pa Atu, is a lure used for the Atu or tuna in Samoa. Rei Niho are ancient pre-European style artefacts found on archaic archaeological sites throughout New Zealand. In Maori language Rei Niho literally means tooth necklace, this is because they were originally made from whales teeth. Mau Kaki, in the style of ancient pre-European whale ivory or moa bone artefacts found on archaic archaeological sites through out New Zealand.
