TIHEI MAURI ORA

Ko hani harihona/toko te rangi taku ingoa,
Ko ngatokimatawhauorua, ko Takitimu, ko kurahaupo toko waka,
Ko Kupe, ko Tamatea Arikinui, Ko Pohurihanga toko tupuna,
Ko Ngati Kahu, Ko Ngai Takoto, Ko Ngati Kuri Toko iwi,

Tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.

Kia Ora, I am Shane Harrison/ Toko Te Rangi. I belong to the sea going vessels Ngatokimatawhauorua, Takitimu and Kurahaupo. My ancestors are Kupe ( the great Maori navigator ), Tamatea Arikinui and Pohurihanga. My tribes are Ngati Kahu, Ngai Takoto and Ngati Kuri.

Having never been formally trained in the arts of whakairo (carving), my elders would tell you that I am trained by my ancestors, or if you like I could have been trained in a past life, thus possessing a natural ability, and knowing so to speak.

Having said that, I remain a humble student willing to learn all that I can.

I believe that regardless of origin, when a carving is created with all sincerity it acts as a vessel for communication between souls.

This is expressed within Christianity with the advent of the Arc of the Covenant.

All carvings that I create are blessed and are fresh and clean, rather like a child. Love and care for them as I do and only good may come to you.
