About the artist:
I have always enjoyed working with flax and natural fibres. Since I was young, I was creating art out of things that would grow around my mums garden, so it was only natural that I chose a career in Floristry.
I began my "apprenticeship" in Nelson, where I was tought my 1st flax flower. I immedietly wanted to learn more about flax, but resources were limited. After a few years working in a great job, My partner and I explored the south island where flax is abundant.
I really missed my creative job and started experimenting with flax; creating the things I would usually make at the florist. I began specialising in flax wedding designs which proved to be popular in Kiwi themed weddings both in NZ and overseas.
I have also run workshops for floral art clubs, Shool programmes and the Alexandra thyme festival. There is so much that can be done with flax and its a fibre I can still learn a lot about. The joy of Harakeke is limitless.
