Matau bone carving

Design your carving

For simple designs, you can just draw this on the carving. If you lack inspiration, you can make a 'doodle' and shade the different parts until you find a design you like.

We suggest to keep it simple...

You can 'trace' your design onto the bone, using carbon paper. If needed, you can re-size your design...

In this example, the design has been pasted onto the bone, as it was cut it out before the suggestion was made to make this process part of this site...

Please note that this is a very basic introduction to bonecarving. There is a lot of work involved in this art form and these books on carving offer really good reference material.
