Traditional tiki were carved from pounamu or greenstone and were a highly prized heirloom. Maori have occupied New Zealand since about 1000 A. D., the history of the tiki predates this occupation. The tiki is the least understoond of Maori symbols and theories are abundant regarding the meaning behind the carving. Whatever the theory it is generally believed to be a powerful good luck symbol. This representation of the tiki has been created in Cast Crystal Glass.
